Why do some people own fire alarm systems?
I was watching videos on you tube and some people own fire alarms like Systems Sensors and Simplex and stuff like that. Some have a collection of them. I wonder why they have them. I thought its impossible to have those in your home and only have them in buildings. I see these fire alarms all the time in buildings and schools.

I don’t know of any law that prohibits having any kind of alarm system.
I do have a home-made system because I am deaf, not really but severe!
Many of my “alarm” things (door bell, telephone…) are rigged-up to my hearing aids via radio signals.
But when it comes to law, the algebraic sum does not add up.
For example it is illegal to have (own or manufacture) a transceiver (transmitter / receiver in the same box) that can transmit over air traffic control frequencies.
But, you may buy a receiver to listen to them, and a separate transmitter to talk to them and this is legal!
Go figure.
You should have at least one smoke or smoke/flame alarm in your home to wake you at night – "smoke detector" and if your home is huge enough, should have several and connect them together so they go off together. Nearly everyone who has a burglar alarm system has fire/smoke detectors connected with them.
