Smoke detector continues to make a chirping sound. Why?
I found that after I changed the batteries, the chirping noise continued. But what I didn’t know was that I have 4 smoke detectors; I thought I only had two. Since the chirping noise is ambient, I only thought I knew where it was coming from. When I found all four smoke detectors and changed all their batteries, the chirping noise stopped.

most smoke detectors need to be "reset" after changing the battery. look for a button and hold it down for 5 seconds or so. this should stop chirping.
end of prob.
I second that
The chirp is to tell you, "Please change my battery!"
Suggestion: change the smoke detector batteries twice a year when you change the clocks.
I had same conundrum , smoke detectors will chirp +/- 5 min after new battery is installed, also when battery is low
if you use low cost batteries they will chirping like you didn,t change them. they didn,t have the powerto run the smoke detector. also you got to putnew battary in and push to test it and that will set it agian.
